BORN TODAY  in Gotha, Saxe-Gotha (now Thuringia) Germany – Friedrich Ferdinand Carl Ernst August Wilhelm Harold Casimir Nikolaus Prinz von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. His Highness was awarded the Iron Cross in 1945 as Commander of a Panzergrenadier Regiment. Died in 1989, aged 76 years in Glucksburg, Schleswig-Holstein.

In Oslo, Norway – Nanna Egedius, Norwegian Champion and international contestant figure-skater from 1932 to 1936.

In Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India – (Syed) Rafiq Husain, Urdu writer and poet.

Extreme Weather: In Seward, Nebraska – a tornado claims 10 lives and destroys one third of the town.

Society and Culture: At the Nevada State Prison, Andriza Mircovich, an Austro-Hungarian with family origins in Montenegro, is executed by shooting for the murder of John Gregovich in a financial dispute.

In Lerwick on the Shetland Islands, in Scotland’s far north, the town trustees meet to set aside land for a building in Scandinavian style to serve as the town’s photographic studio. Today the building houses the “Raba” Indian Restaurant.
