War in the air: An allied “Voisin III” flown by Sergeant Joseph Frantz and mechanic Corporal Louis Quénault  becomes the first allied plan to shoot down an enemy aircraft.


War at Sea: Two British naval trawlers and a British cargo ship; the “Drumoak”; the “Princess Alice”; and the “Ardmount”; each strike mines and sink in the North Sea.
